Reverse osmosis

Reverse osmosis has become a popular membrane separation technique for the water treatment industry and Yarn Home has experience and demonstrable success with its application. It involves the removal of large molecules and ions from solutions using a semi-permeable membrane. This membrane lets the fluid flow through while dissolved solids stay behind. Reverse osmosis is mainly applied during drinking water preparation and for the production of ultra-pure water for the pharmaceutical industries and boiler feed water.

Clarification technology 

Clarification is the removal of suspended solids and particulate matter including sediments, oil, natural organic matter and colour from the water to make it clear. Clarification occurs in combination with coagulants and flocculants to improve settling.

Yarn Home offers Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF) and settling techniques to clarify wastewater and water.

  • This involves applying air to the water and under pressure, releasing the air bubbles which adhere to the suspended matter causing it to float to the surface.
  • The matter can then be removed by a skimming device.

Desalination technology

Desalination is a solution that is perfect for the many barren regions of sub-Saharan Africa. With the growing strategic importance of coastal towns and port cities, desalination is a vital technology for water treatment in these urban zones.

It involves using membrane technology to remove salts from water to produce potable drinking water.

In addition desalination can be used within industry for:

Ultraviolet (UV) technology 

Ultraviolet (UV) water purification systems and water treatment is used as a pre-treatment or polishing step to sterilise and disinfect water, particularly water supply that is considered biologically unsafe (lake or well water).

The ultraviolet water treatment process is a non-chemical method for destroying micro-organisms by altering their genetic material, and rendering them unable to reproduce.

Ion exchange technology 

Ion exchangers are used to remove salts from water. Ion exchangers consist of a resin containing acidic and basic molecules. These exchange with the anions and cations that form the salt, effectively removing them from the water.

Biological processes technology 

Biological processes are used to treat wastewater through anaerobic and aerobic digestion processes of micro-organisms. These naturally break down and absorb the organic matter carried in wastewater to produce biogas, heat and compost.
